Monday, December 29 - Hong Kong
First, thanks for the emails wondering if I am alive. It has been a whirlwind of a week and I am trying to update the blog when I have free internet and some of these hotels charge lots 'o money to connect for just an hour.
So, I love my cool hotel in East Tsim Sha Tsui which is on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong and decide to just venture out for the day to see what finds me. I walk right up to a Double Deck bus and attempt to buy my ticket. Did you know that Hong Kong has different currency than China? I worry about admitting some of these obvious things on a blog to all my closest friends but these are the things I am learning as the dumb American tourist and since I had to wait for the next bus in order to get money, I thought it was worth mentioning.
So, I hop on the bus and tour the Kowloon area - including Nathan Road (you have NEVER seen shopping like this), temple market as well as Shangahi Rd.
I then grab a Star Ferry across to Hong Kong Island and tour Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Victoria Peak (complete with the 27 degree incline to the peak) and Lan Kwai Fong.
Great day seeing the sights of Hong Kong - I really like the city as it has a little bit of a New York City feel to it!
That night, I walked around the Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront and the Avenue of the Stars and watch the Symphony of Lights which is the world's largest light show with both sides of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island buildings participating in the show. I have a video of it that I will try to download. The photo is of the buildings right outside my hotel - lots of buildings are decorated for the holidays.
What a great day in Hong Kong!
